*** Of special interst is the H-ANZAU Discussion List (The History of Aotearoa/New Zealand and Australia). It is run from Michigan State University and edited at James Cook and Melbourne University in Australia and is supported by the Australian Vice-Chancellors' Committee. Subscription is essential to all academics interested in this subject. You may subscribe directly from this site. There is also an Archive of prior messages.
Research materials online
*** A special page has been prepared for Australian Historical Resources. It includes links to primary material online as well as archives, libraries and other related research material of value to the historian.
- The Australian Archives is improving its website. As yet it will not replace a trip to the archives, but may save some time. Check the various indexes that are online along with some useful descriptive information. Links are given to the various state archives and a useful listing of other archives in Australia. They even offer some examples of documents they hold. A must-visit for the serious researcher.
- Since 1987 the National Library provided various databases via Ozline, Australian Information Online. This has now been discontinued and relocated to Informit Online at RMIT. They now require a subscription fee.
- Australian Archives on the WWW is part of the Directory of Archives in Australia from the Australian Society of Archivists. See also their "aus-archivists" discussion group which includes an archive (!) of past messages.
- The library at ADFA maintains summaries of reference and general works in various subject areas. For example, check the list for Australian Military History, or Major Australian Defence Reports...since 1975. This is very useful material, but has not been updated for several years.
- History of Science, Technology and Medicine Biographical Dictionary.
- The Northern Territory University Library has published a guide to the sources of information related to the Australia-ASEAN relation.
Humanities
- Australian Humanities Review.
- The Australian Historical Association site, from Perth. Unfortunately, still mostly incomplete and largely out of date. From Melbourne comes the AHA internet resources, also seriously out of date.
- Also from Newcastle is an excellent reference called David recommends... which includes many sites for Australian history research. See the Resources for historians in Australia and listing of Australasian History Departments on the internet.
- Electronic Journal of Australian and New Zealand History.

- Australian Information Server in History and the Humanities.

Art
- The Department of Visual Arts at Monash University is establishing a site caled DIVA, Digital Images from the Visual Arts Library which contains rather large pages, but worth a look if your interest runs to the visual arts.
- AusArts,the ANU Institute of the Arts Library Server.
- The following are great libraries, but each website is only graphics - no text navigation. Sometimes people forget that not everyone has the fastest access to the internet.
- Australian Rock Art Association at Melbourne University.
Literature
- The University of Sydney has created an Australian Literature Database which includes a collection of 18th, 19th, and early 20th Century Australian Texts. Many are full text and searchable.
- Visit the new web site for the American Association of Australian Literary Studies which includes a useful index of references to literature sites.
- Australian Literature on the Internet, from the National Library.
- OzLit, extensive references to Australian Literature. Includes a full-text version of Tom Collins' Such is Live.
- The Man from Snowy River from a developing site on the Works of Banjo Paterson.
- Association for the Study of Australian Literature, (ASAL), see especially the Directory of Postgraduate Research in Australian Literature.

- CoombsWeb homepage is the Social Sciences Server at the Research School of Social Sciences at the Australian National University, an absolute must for the academic. Also check the homepages of each department within the RSSS and RSPAS and a (somewhat dated) listing of electronic publications.
- "In Touch", newsletter of the Australian Association for Social Research.
- Political Science in Australia, from the Department of Political Science at the Australian National University.
