| His research interests are primarily in the area of the work ethic in Western and Asian societies. Other research interests include advertising, the media, and the consumer movement. The main geographic focus of his research is Australia and Southeast Asia. Some of his works have been published, or are forthcoming, in the Journal of Australian Studies , The Journal of Religious History , and the Australian Historical Studies . | |

| Head of Division. PhD Adelaide. His research interests are in the area of post-colonial literatures, especially SE Asian and Australasian. Recent publications include several entries in the Routledge Encyclopaedia of Post-Colonial Literatures in English (1994) forwhich he was also the Singapore/Malaysia Regional Editor. Edited Critical Engagements (Heinemann, 1986) and The Writer's Sense of the Past (Singapore University Press, 1989). Creative works include Twenty Poems (1978) and Palm Readings (1986). He administered the Commonwealth Writers Prize for 1993 and 1994 and is now the Editor of World Literature Written In English . Has given readings of his works at several international festivals, including Edinburgh, Adelaide, Kent, York, Toronto. Teaching areas include cross-cultural perceptions, and post-colonial literatures. | |
