Australian Schools on the Internet
Australia is in the process of getting every school onto the Internet. More web sites appear daily. There is probably no fully complete listing of secondary or elementary school web sites. Each of the sites listed below offer listings which will be useful. All index schools by state and some list elementary and secondary schools separately.
Government agency lists:
- BushNet provides access to the internet for rural schools in northern Queensland. This site is administered through the University of Queensland and funded by the Commonwealth government.
Private companies and organizations lists:
- Schoolsnet is a provider specializing in helping schools in Victoria and the Australian Capital Territory (Canberra) establish a presence on the internet. Good listings of their member schools is provided. In 1998 they will include schools in Queensland.
- "The Australian" newspaper offers Cyber Classroom listing of Schools Online.
- South Australian Schools Net has a partial listing of schools in that state.
- EduNet (Ireland) provides a partial list of Australian Schools on the Internet. An attempt is made to include every country in the world, it is not specific to Australia. The database relys upon schools taking the initiative and submitting their information so it can not be considered a complete listing. There is no indication of just how current the web site is.
- The National Schools Network has a list of member schools arranged by state.
University based lists:
- The faculty of Education at the University of Melbourne maintains Australian schools on the Web. The listing is divided by Secondary and Elementary schools and by State. It is useful, but not complete.
- Griffith University Faculty of Education maintains the "Schools Junction" and offers a listing of Australian Schools on the Internet. It depends largely on schools submitting their site information.
- University of Minnesota, Web66 is an international school web registry with numerous links to Australian schools.
- University of Texas at Austin offers a small listing in the Texas Education Network.
Schools based lists:
- Reece High School in Tasmania maintains a listing of Australian K-12 Schools on the Internet.
- Dominic College has a searchable Australian Education List which claims over three thousand entries.
