I want technical training or junior college level opportunities

Australia is one of the most advanced countries in the world in the area of Technical and Further Education (TAFE). Unlike the United States, TAFE in Australia is generally considered a terminal education rather than the first two years of a four year degree. Often programs include an apprenticeship period.

To learn more, visit the government web site on TAFE.

We are compiling a listing of TAFE web sites in Australia. Feel free to surf the suggestions below:

You also have the opportunity to learn English in Australia . Many of the Universities in Australia have english as a second language programs, many of which are vital to take if you are interested in pursuing a higher degree in Australia, and english is not your first language.

ELICOS Classes

There are many English Language Courses for overseas students to choose from, all of which are accredited by the Australian government. The colleges teach at various levels, ranging from beginners to advanced with approximately 10 - 15 students per class. Class work averages about 25 hours a week and may include some extra study time outside of the classroom. Housing during the course is usually in a homestay, hostel, hotel, or on or off campus residences. Most colleges require students to be at least 17 years of age to be enrolled.

Many of the colleges also concentrate on English skills in conversation and comprehension for work in your own country or for travel. These classes are known as "General English" courses or "Vacation" courses because they usually fall between summer and winter vacations and last anywhere from one week to four weeks.

The following schools are all AEO member institutions which offer ELICOS classes. They are listed by state and the tuition is in Australian dollars. A more complete listing of International schools is available upon request.
